The Bailiwick of Guernsey (Norman: Bailliage de Guernesey) is a British Crown Dependency off the coast of Normandy, France in the Channel Islands. The islands were formerly under the control of Brittany and, later, Normandy and France. The Bailiwick of Guernsey was occupied by German troops during World War II. The official language is English.[1]

- 1204: Split from mainland Normandy and remained part of England
- 1290: Channel Islands were divided administratively and Guernsey became part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey
- 30 Jun 1940 - 9 May 1945: German occupation
- As of 2023: Guernsey is administered as part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a self-governing dependency of the British Crown and not part of the United Kingdom.[1]
