:We hold the records for more than 200 Church of England parishes in the Archdeaconry of the East Riding, which includes Hull and Scarborough. Many of our Church of England parish registers can also be searched online at Findmypast, which is free to use in the Archives and all East Riding Libraries.
:Many early nonconformist registers were passed to the Registrar General in 1840 and these are held at The National Archives in London. We have a mixture of microfilm and hard copies of many of the East Riding and Hull ones, including Baptist churches (reference EB), Methodist churches (reference MR), Congregational and United Reform Churches (reference EUR*), some Roman Catholic Churches (on microfiche only, reference MF/25) and Society of Friends (Quakers, on microfiche only, reference MF/2).

==Civil Registration Offices==

The [https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ '''General Register Office'''] holds a central copy of all birth, marriage, and death registrations in England. These certificates can be ordered from their [https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ '''website'''] (a login is required but it is free to register and search). However, in some cases research can be more efficient working with the smaller, more specific records collections of county/district registry offices.
----
Sometimes research might be required to determine where a town or parish was in a former registration district, or even its current district.  For a list of the '''historic and current registration districts and their parishes''', see [https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/ery.html Civil Registration Districts in Yorkshire East Riding].
