In June of 1885 Andrew O. Inglestrom entered the land and other settlers soon followed. The originally the town was called Cedar Point settlement and was organized on Oct 18, 1885. Nearly all the people live in scattered conditions on their respective farms. The land and gardens were irrigated from Cedar Pointe Canal and the Snake River Valley Canal. These two canal head at the same point on the Snake River about 3 miles below Idaho Falls, but separate three and one-half miles below the head. They are owned and operated by the same company.<br>Basalt Railroad Station was part of the Oregon Short line Railroad. The total population of the Basalt Precinct was 1,215 in 1930.<br>
