History

Brief Timeline

1598: Padre Alonzo de Lugo and the Spanish explorer Juan de Onate began to "Christianize" the Jemez.

1680: Pueblo Revolt, effort to drive Spanish from New Mexico.

1694:Diego de Vargas, kills 84 Warriors and captures 361 prisoners.

1838: Attacks by the Comanche and Spanish soldiers force the people to abandon their pueblo

1846: The Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago, New Mexico becomes part of the United States 1936: members of the Pecos Pueblo group join the Jemez

1878: Presbyterian Mission school established
