British Colonization (1899-1956)[edit | edit source]
With the help of Egypt, British forces invaded Sudan in the 1890s, defeating the French. in 1899 the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium was established, a joint British-Egyptian government in which sovereignty was shared. Sudan was declared an independent republic on January 1, 1956.[1]
