13th Infantry Regiment completed its organization at Corinth, Mississippi, in May, 1861. Its members were raised in the counties of Lauderdale, Winston, Wayne, Attala, Newton, Chickasaw, Kemper, and Clarke. Surrendered on April 9, 1865. The field officers were Colonels William Barksdale, James W. Carter, and Kennon McElroy; Lieutenant Colonels John M. Bradley, Alfred G. O'Brien, and M. Whitaker; and Majors George L. Regiment Companies with the County of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
