History of Manitoba Censuses[edit | edit source]
In 1851, Canada begin keeping censuses every 10 years. However, these censuses were often taken in different years, and it was not until 1871, after the Dominion of Canada was created, that censuses were taken regularly.[1] Manitoba first appeared in the 1881 Canada census. Starting in 1830, it was included in the Manitoba census, Red River census and northwest provinces census.
