History[edit | edit source]
The original mines on De Lamar Mountain were sold in September 1888 to Captain De Lamar, who developed his properties by building a mill, a hotel and several other buildings. He was bought out in 1891 by the De Lamar Mining Company of London, England, who continued to develop the claims and the town.
De Lamar had a Miners' Union, as well as an Odd Fellows Lodge and a Rebekah's organization.[2]
Mining returned to the area of De Lamar in 1975 with an open pit operation.<ref>Idaho's Owyhee: Snake River Country - An Auto Tour. Souvenir Edition. [n.p., c1987].
