The Nova Scotia census records before 1703 are helpful in providing a deceased person's name, age, and relatives. The census records from 1703 to 1861 list only the head of each household, with a few exceptions.

==Nova Scotia in the Canadian Censuses==
Census records beginning in 1871 are national censuses taken by the federal government. Most national censuses have been indexed. Indexes and links to them are listed at the [http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-911.009-e.html Library and Archives Canada web site]. <br>
===Population Schedules - Online Records===

Nova Scotia was included in the first Canadian Census in 1871 and every 10 years following. From 1671 to 1755, Nova Scotians were included in the Acadian census. Parts of Nova Scotia were included in various town census thereafter. In 1851 and 1861, Nova Scotia was included in the census of the Province of Canada. In 1867, Nova Scotia became a province of the Dominion of Canada and was included in the 1871 and all subsequent Canadian censuses.

The Nova Scotia census records before 1703 are helpful in providing a deceased person's name, age, and relatives. The census records from 1703 to 1861 list only the head of each household, with a few exceptions.

Census records beginning in 1871 are national censuses taken by the federal government. Most national censuses have been indexed. Indexes and links to them are listed at the Library and Archives Canada web site.
