Brief Timeline[edit | edit source]
- 1789: Treaty with the Six Nations
- 1792: Treaty agreement with the Five Nations
- 1794: Treaty with the Oneida, Etc.,
- 1794: Treaty with the Six Nations
- 1824-34: The tribe was under the jurisdiction of the Six Nations Agency
- 1834-80: New York Agency supervised the tribe
- 1832-34: Michigan Superintendency had jurisdiction over the tribe
- 1838: Treaty with the New York Indians
- 1840: Many Tribal members left New York migrating west to Wisconsin, where they had been promised a reservation in Brown and Outagamie counties.

Frederick Webb Hodge, in his Handbook of American Indians North of Mexico, gave a more complete history of the Oneida tribe, with estimations of the population of the tribe at various time periods.

The majority of records of individuals were those created by the agencies. Some records may be available to tribal members through the tribal headquarters.They were (and are) the local office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and were charged with maintaining records of the activities of those under their responsibility. Among these records are:

A record of Native Americans Mustered into Service in the War of 1812 from the Oneida Nation has been compiled by the New York Adjutant General's Office.
