The Lord Lyon, King of Arms, is the chief herald of Scotland. He decides on matters related to coats of arms, clan chiefdoms, aristocratic titles and so on. As Lord Lyon is responsible for the right to use coats of arms; therefore, he maintains pedigrees of families entitled to use coats of arms.
