Some countries in the Wiki have infoboxes on each of the parish pages that gives more precise jurisdictional information for each parish. We have added the infobox template to all of the parish pages in Wales so we can add that information as well. This is very helpful for the researchers, as it tells them what jurisdictional levels held their records.
For this project, we will be finding the Poor Law Union information, and adding it to the infobox.

Sign up on Task List[edit | edit source]
1. Go to the Task List and put your name in the "Name" column for the respective Wiki pages you'd like to work on.
2. Click on the name of the wiki page you signed up for. The name is linked to the actual Wiki page and will take you directly to that page.
Find the Poor Law Union[edit | edit source]
3. Look at the breadcrumb at the top of the page (the series of jurisdictions separated by arrow icons), and locate the historic county your parish was in. (Do not click on the name of the county. This is for reference only).
- Note: The county name in the breadcrumb may not say "Historic" in the link. That is ok. We are just using this breadcrumb to find what county the parish belonged to. If you have questions about this step, contact Amber.
4. Remembering that county name from the breadcrumb in step 3, go to the List of Poor Law Unions in Wales page.
5. Locate the Heading on the Poor Law Unions page that corresponds to your county.
(In the example above, the county is Cardiganshire).
- Note: If you are looking for Breconshire, be aware that "Brecknockshire" and "Breconshire" are interchangable.

So even though you talks about the names differences in the note above, you might want to add "some parishes do not have the word "historical" in them. I just do not know how confused they get.
6. Look for the name of your parish in the chart for your county. Be aware that the name of your parish may be in the "Name" column of the chart, or in the "Civil Parishes" column.
In the example below, the name of the parish we are looking for ("Aberaeron") is located in the "Name" column.
7. When you find your parish in the table, the parish name will typically be in the "Civil Parishes" column. Look at the corresponding entry in the "Name" column for that parish. That is the name of the Poor Law Union.
- Note 1: In the example above, our parish name is Aberaeron. It is also the name of the Poor Law Union (PLU). In this case, the name of the parish and the name of the Poor Law Union are the same.
- Note 2: Your parish name may be spelled multiple ways. If you do not initially see a spelling in the chart that matches your parish name, refer back to the Wiki parish page to see if there is an alternate spelling of the parish name. (see image below)
8. If you did not find your parish name in the Poor Law Union chart, type "None" in the Notes column of the Task List, and continue on to the next parish.
Adding the Poor Law Union to the Infobox[edit | edit source]
9. After you have found the Poor Law Union name in the chart, go back to the FS Wiki page for your parish.
10. Click Edit source next to the "History" heading (or equivalent) on the parish page, and locate the infobox template code. It will look something like the following:
11. Find the part of the infobox code that says:

12. Replace the "add here" with the name of the Poor Law Union you found. (see example below)
13. Type "added Poor Law Union" in the Summary box, and then click "Save Page".
