Scanners for Documents, Photographs and Book Pages

Whole boxes of old and new photos can become JPEG and TIFF files in minutes. Digital images of color and black-and-white photos and documents can be shared via computers, tablets and cell phones. This scanner accommodates photos and documents up to 8 1/2" x 14". The PS80 scans up to 85 photos per minute.

If photos have been in an album for a long time, they may be glued in or covered with plastic protectors. In either case, damage can occur when trying to remove them. A flatbed scanner provides an option to scan these fragile files at no risk of harm and will keep album pages intact.
The PS80 and the Flat Bed scanner uses the same computer. When scheduling the PS80 you will automatically be schedule for the Flat Bed.

Video Tape Conversion

Equipment is provided to capture, in real-time, the video from full-size VHS tapes. The Equipment will capture the video and store it on a DVD or 16 gig Thumb Drive.

Please bring blank DVD discs (DVD+R or DVD-R types) also you need at least a 16 gig USB thumb drive. Recommended brands are Verbatim DVR+R or DVD-R 8x, Maxwell DVD+R 4x/8x/16x or DVD-R 8x/16x, Sony DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, TDK DVD+R 4x/8x/16x. You'll need a DVD for every 2 hours of VHS video.

Preparing to use the Video Tape Converter

For a successful experience, consider the following:

  • The captured video files will be in .mpg and .mp4 formats and will be transferred to the patron's personal USB thumb drive to take home. A two-hour video will need about 16G of USB storage for the .mpg or MP4 format.
  • A MP4 file is a compressed video file, that can so we can put it on a thumb drive.
  • A vob is a file that is usually large and can be saved to a thumb drive but sometimes too large unless you bring a large thumb drive. Otherwise, you make an mp4 out of it.
  • Full-size VHS tapes.
  • Rewind tapes or set at start point before coming, if possible, to maximize time
  • Expect about one hour of video content during a session with half hour of setup/wrap up
  • Please bring an external USB drive with at least 16Gig or more of available space for a single session
  • A VHS or DVD can be made into a MP4.
  • Plan to complete all efforts within the scheduled time period
  • Do not bring tapes with commercial content or copyrighted material, only family-related videos
  • Please bring your own DVD's and 16 gig thumb drives
  • If you are 15 or more minutes late for your appointment your time can be given to someone else.
  • The video conversion equipment is to be used only with the assistance of a trained technology missionary. The video tape can be split into smaller topic-based segments during the conversion - birthday party, vacation, graduation, etc. The result is small subject-based videos that can be uploaded to Social Media (Facebook), loaded on a phone, or easily shared with family & friends. While the digital video files will provide the best option to play and share video memories, a DVD can be created during the conversion if needed. Please bring blank DVD discs (DVD+R or DVD-R types). Recommended brands are Verbatim DVR+R or DVD-R 8x, Maxwell DVD+R 4x/8x/16x or DVD-R 8x/16x, Sony DVD+R 4x/8x/16x, TDK DVD+R 4x/8x/16x.
