Spelling and reforms[edit | edit source]

Because the majority of available genealogical records for Armenia were created before the mid-1920s, most of them will be written using Classical Armenian orthography.

  • իւ became յու (For example: գիւղ -> գյուղ)
  • ւ became վ (For example: թիւ -> թիվ)
  • յ became հ (For example: Յակոբ -> Հակոբ)
  • եւ became և or եվ
