What Is in This Collection?[edit | edit source]
The collection consists of and index to obituaries published on Currentobituary.com. Obituaries are from all over the United States. The collection covers the years 2001 to 2014.
What Can This Collection Tell Me?[edit | edit source]
The records may contain any of the following:
- Name of the deceased
- Birth, death and burial date and place
- Residences
- Names of family members
- Name of funeral home
- Cause of death
- Funeral officiator
- Name of newspaper, date and place of publication
- Other details such as military service
How Do I Search the Collection?[edit | edit source]
To begin your search you will need to know:
- The name of your ancestor
- The approximate date of death
- The place where your ancestor lived
- The names of other family members and their relationships
Search the Index[edit | edit source]
Search by name on the Collection Details Page.- Enter the information in the fields in the Search Collection section or click More Options to see additional fields
- Click Search to show possible matches

Compare each result from your search with what you know to determine if there is a match. This may require viewing multiple records or images. Keep track of your research in a research log.

When you have located your ancestor’s obituary, carefully evaluate each piece of information given. Save a copy of the image or transcribe the information. These pieces of information may give you new biographical details. Add this new information to your records of each family. You should also look for leads to other records about your ancestors.

- Use information to find the family in census records
- Use the information to find a death certificate
