The province of Uppland was mentioned first in 1296 in a document describing the province as including the Folklands of Fjärdhundraland, Attundaland, Tiundaland and Roslagen.
Following the Reformation, almost all parishes in Uppland became protestant. The 17th century was a time of growth, which stopped beginning of the 18th century due to the harvest failure around 1708 and when the Russian military destroyed large coastal areas in 1719 in the Great Northern War. After the war, the province recovered lived in peace.
