The [https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ '''General Register Office'''] holds a central copy of all birth, marriage, and death registrations in England. These certificates can be ordered from their [https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ '''website'''] (a login is required but it is free to register and search). However, in some cases research can be more efficient working with the smaller, more specific records collections of county/district registry offices.
----
Sometimes research might be required to determine where a town or parish was in a former registration district, or even its current district.  For a list of the '''historic and current registration districts and their parishes''', see [https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/NTH.html UKBMD: Registration Districts in Northamptonshire].

On the face of it, Burton Latimer is an ordinary small East Midlands town with little to show for its thousands of years existence. But looking a little closer, its long history will be revealed. Bronze and Iron Age artefacts were found here and a Romano-British farmstead and cemetery. We were, like other similar villages, a predominately farming community until the late 1800s when industry began to replace agriculture. Clothing manufacture, ironstone mining, boot & shoe manufacture, engineering and the manufacture of Weetabix have since been instrumental in the growth of the town. Burton Latimer Heritage Museum, run by Heritage Society volunteers, is housed the Civic Centre,120 High Street, a former health centre building owned by the local authority, but the museum is entirely independent.
