==Compiled Genealogies==
The term compiled genealogy is used in this Wiki article to describe a variety of records containing family information previously gathered by other researchers, societies, or archives. These records can include pedigree charts, compiled data on families, correspondence, ancestor lists, research exchange files, record abstracts, and collections of original or copied documents. These can be excellent sources of information that can save you valuable time. Because they are secondary sources of information, however, they must be carefully evaluated for accuracy.

===FamilySearch Catalog===
Many family histories can be found on the FamilySearch Catalog by performing a '''surname search''':

*Go to the [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog '''FamilySearch Catalog''']
==French Historical Society Collection==
*Click on the '''Surname''' link
Research use: Of great value for those of French ancestry.
*Type in the search field the '''last name''' of the family that you are researching

Record type: Card index of vital events.

Time period: Early to 1820.

Contents: Card index of 60,000 cards covering early French families, includes names, dates, births, deaths, marriages, etc.: 21 volumes of family records.

OR to filter by '''location and surname''':
Location: Mauritius Central Archives.

*Go to the [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog '''FamilySearch Catalog''']
Population coverage: Less than 10% before 1700; approximately 80% of the French population, 1700-1820.
*Click on the '''Keyword''' link
*Type in the search field the '''country of residence and last name''' of the family that you are researching
==Oral Genealogies==
Oral genealogies are spoken lineages that are common in certain parts of the world. Oral Genealogies can be especially useful in localities where few if any written records exist and in some cultures are the main genealogical tool for researchers.
*For more background information, see [[Oral Genealogies|'''Oral Genealogies'''.]]

There are not many oral genealogies online for Mauritius, and therefore, interviewing likely family members of the deceased individuals may be more productive than searching for oral genealogies online.

==Chinese Genealogies==
Research use: Excellent family linkage material; good family history information.

Record type: Pedigree charts, family group forms.

Time period: 1800 to present.

Contents: Pedigree charts; vital information for individuals, particularly males; biographies.

Location: Private individuals and voluntary associations in major population centers throughout the islands.

Population coverage: Less than 5%.  Note that given the relative density of Chinese population in certain of these islands, 5% includes a considerable number of people. The other records in these islands contain virtually no information on the Chinese.  These are the only sources, apart from the Chinese voluntary association records, which have extensive information on the Chinese.

Reliability: Good.<ref name="profile"/>
