History

Brief Timeline

1711: Tuscarora War began when the tribe raided

1715: The Tuscarora Indians moved north and joined the Iroquois Confederacy

1722: Officially became part of the Iroquois Confederacy as the Sixth Nation

• 1784 Treaty, October 22, at Fort Stanwix with The Six Nations
• 1789 Treaty, January 9, at Fort Harmar, with The Six Nations
• 1792  Treaty, with the Five Nations of Indians
• 1794 Treaty,  December 2, at Oneida, with the Oneida, Etc.,
• 1794  Treaty, with The Six Nations
  

1824-34: The tribe was under the jurisdiction of the Six Nations Agency

1832-34: The tribe was under the jurisdiction of the Michigan Superintendency

1835-80: The tribe was under the jurisdiction of the New York Agency

The majority of records of individuals were those created by the agencies. Some records may be available to tribal members through the tribal headquarters.They were (and are) the local office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and were charged with maintaining records of the activities of those under their responsibility.
