Brief Timeline[edit | edit source]
1540: First Spanish explorers arrive
1680: Pueblo Revolt, to remove the Spanish from New Mexico
1697-1699: Laguna Pueblo establish by Indians from Santo Domingo, Cochiti, Jemez and Zia Pueblos who had been living among the Acoma at the Acoma Pueblo as refugees
1855: The dam was washed out and caused flooding
1846: The Treaty of Guadalupe Hildago, New Mexico becomes part of the United States
1870: Religious strife between tribal members, Catholic and Presbyterian
1880: Atlantic and Pacific Railroad was built.

The majority of records of individuals were those created by the agencies. Some records may be available to tribal members through the tribal headquarters.They were (and are) the local office of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and were charged with maintaining records of the activities of those under their responsibility. Among these records are:

The 1900 federal census included population schedules for the Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico. The Indians residing in this Pueblo in 1900 are listed on Indian Population Schedules as District 176, Laguna Indian Reservation, in Valencia County, New Mexico.
