Research use: Give some individual identification but more importantly show family groups and help to link one to three generations.
Record type: Enumeration of the population compiled by the government.
General: Censuses have been conducted intermittently on a town or parish basis.
Time period: 1700-present.
Contents: List heads of households, sometimes occupation, names of spouse, their ages, or birth dates; names of children, their ages or birth dates; sometimes names of servants and other relatives living in a household; places of residence.
Location: Municipal archive in the town or in the main town for each parish.
Population coverage: 50% coverage in extant records.[1]
