In 1574, Palau became part of the Spanish East Indies. In 1899, the islands became part of German New Guinea. After World War I, the Palau islands were made a part of the Japanese South Seas Mandate. In 1947, Palau was made a part of the United States Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. Birth and death records from the Trust Territory Archives (1800-1986) are on microfilm at the United States National Archives, the University of Hawaii, Manoa, Pacific Collection and the National Archives of the FSM at Palikir,Pohnpei.

Currently being digitized by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
