What is the Family History Library Block Party?[edit | edit source]

The Global Family Reunion is the "biggest, most extraordinary and most inclusive family reunion in history." The main event will be held on the grounds of the 1964 New York State Fair, current location of the New York Hall of Science. You can read more about it on their website GlobalFamilyReunion.com.

The organizer and creator of the event is A. J. Jacobs. In his keynote address from RootsTech 2015, A. J. explains how the idea came to be. A. J. feels passionately that because we are all cousins if we could remember that the world would be a more peaceful place. He created the event so we could all meet our cousins. When is the Family History Block Party?[edit | edit source]

The Family History Library Block Party will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2016. The event in Salt Lake City will run from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. It will be held on West Temple Street from North Temple to South Temple.

There is no charge to attend the Family HIstory Library event. Activities at the event will include:

  • Live entertainment
  • Food vendors (will charge)
  • Carnival games
  • A rock wall
  • Bounce houses
  • Face painting
  • Storytelling
  • Library tours
  • Classes

The Family History Library is located at 35 North West Temple in downtown Salt Lake City.For more information please click here.

Parking[edit | edit source]

There are several places to park around the Family History Library and Temple Square.

  • Free parking. Behind the LDS Church History Museum the day of the event there will be limited free parking. Enter the lot from North Temple.
  • Pay parking. Lot on the northwest corner of North Temple and West Temple.
  • Pay parking. Under the LDS Conference Center. Enter on West Temple just north of North Temple.
  • Pay parking. City Creek Center enter from South Temple.
