1775: Tribe encountered a Spanish Vessel anchored offshore

1805: Lewis and Clark Expedition

1820's: Non-Indian trappers and traders entered the area

1840: Sever famine

1855 July 1,

1856: Quinault River Treaty - 10,000 acres reservation near Taholah

1883: School established for the Quileute at La Push

1889: Reservation established at La Push

1893: Reservation established on the Hoh River

1895: Indian Shaker religion spread throughout the area

Frederick Webb Hodge, in his Handbook of American Indians North of Mexico, gave a more complete history of the Quileute tribe, with estimations of the population of the tribe at various time periods. Additional details are given in John Swanton's The Indian Tribes of North America.
