Brief History[edit | edit source]

2nd Battalion, North Carolina Infantry  was formed at Garysburg, North Carolina, during the fall of 1861. It surrendered with 3 officers and 49 men.[1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors database lists 1741 men on its roster for this unit. Roster.

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - many men from Stokes County

Company B - many men from Surry County

Company C - many men from Richmond, Virginia

Company D - many men from Richmond, Virginia

Company E - many men from Meriwether County, Georgia

Company F - many men from Randolph County
