How To Find U.S. Marriage Records Arizona Arizona Marriage Records

Finding Arizona Marriage Records[edit | edit source]

1864 Arizona territorial law required county recorders to keep marriage records.
From 1891 to 1912 clerks of the probate court issued marriage licneses.
Marriage records are maintained by the Clerks of the Superior Court in the county where the event occurred. They are not available from the Office of Vital Records.

	Western States Marriage Index	Free; Free name index with extracted information usually containing name of bride and groom, marriage date and place, residence of bride and groom.

No marriage record for your ancestor?		Search for Gretna Greens-- locations away from the home county where marriage laws were less restrictive. When an Arizona couple's marriage is not in their home county, search for it in alternate places such as Las Vegas, Clark, Nevada, or Yuma, Yuma, Arizona.

Order the License or Certificate [edit | edit source]

If you have been able to locate your ancestor in a marriage index you can order the certificate or license from the Clerk of the Superior Court of the county in which the marriage took place.

Then: Click the marriage license or certificate link

Ask for the marriage license or the marriage register, not the marriage certificate. The license or register usually contains more information.
