Gries is a commune in the canton of Brumath in the department of Bas-Rhin.
Before 1736 Gries (in Amt Brumath) was in the territory of Hanau-Lichtenberg. When that line was extinguished in 1736 it was transferred to Hesse Darmstadt (Landgrave). The rights of all nobility over Weitbruch were abolished effective 11 Aug 1789 by France. This was confirmed by the Peace of Lunéville on 9 February 1801.
