Route from Providence, Rhode Island to New York City passing through Connecticut. Today known as US Route 1.

Historical Background[edit | edit source]

Chartered in May 1806. Running through the towns of: Fairfield - Southport - Westport - Norwalk - Darien - Stamford - Greenwich - New York (Westchester Turnpike).^[1]

Specifically, the Greenwich Road, chartered in 1792, was the part in Greenwich, and became part of the longer Connecticut Turnpike (New York to Fairfield) in 1806.
