Out-of-date information (priority 2)

• Problem and why it needs to be fixed: 

• Old information leads all Wiki users to incorrect information and/or broken links.
• Fixing the information results in better use of the Wiki and better results.
• Users/contributors should be able to trust that the information they are accessing is as up to date, as possible.

Use the template {{outdated}}
 

• Steps to resolve: Click on Outdated information, and click on an article.

1. Review the article to see what is needed.

• Some may only need updating of links.
• Some may need to be merged with another article.

2.  Search for other articles that cover the subject.

3.  Check to see if there is anything still current and not in the current article.  If so, add a paragraph in the current article. Then clear the out-of date artlicle and put a {{delete}} template on the out-of-date article, after removing the {{outdated}} template.

4.  If nothing new is found, clear the {{outdated}} template and add the {{delete}} template.

5.  If another article is not found and the content is good, you may want to re-write the article to update it.

 

Citations needed - statements (3)

• Problem and why it should be fixed:

• There are no citations to confirm the accuracy of the material quoted.  Without the source, the trail to further research is broken.  Under this section, there is usually only one statement that will need to be cited.
• Citations help to confirm the accuracy of the information, and allow the researcher to link to other sources and information on the subject.  Using inline citations helps guard against copyright violations and factual inaccuracies.

Use the template {{Citation needed}}  

• Steps to resolve:

• Click on the link above to access the list of articles that need to have citations added, and select an article to edit.

• Find the template {{Citation needed}} . This marks the item that needs source/s.
• Look for the source of the item.
  • Search in the wiki to see if the statement comes from any other article in the Wiki.
  • If no other instance is found, search Familysearch.org, and other internet sources.
  • If a source is found, link it to the item. Continue until all items that need citation/s are cited, and then remove the{{Citation needed}} template.

• These pages will only show up when using exact title searches.
• Easier searching allows users/contributors to find all useful material faster. It can be very discouraging for users if they cannot find the information they need quickly and easily.

• How to report:

• Steps to resolve:

• List of pages

• Choose a page to review and select a subject area to research.
• If you find an article that is appropriate to link from the orphaned page, create a new link and save it.

Oldest pages (4**)

• Click to help review pages that have not been edited in a long time (for possible out-of-date information)

2. Choose a page to review and select a subject area to research.
3. If you find an article that is appropriate to link to the dead-end page, create a new link and save it.
   
   

Lists of pages that meet a specific criteria contain two asterisks; they don't mean that there is a problem with all the pages in the report and don't need to be "cleaned up."
