Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company B - many men from Lima, Allen County

Company C - many men from Greenfield, Highland County

Company D - many men from Sandusky, Ottawa County

Company E - many men from Lima, Allen County

Company F - many men from Buena Vista, Adams County

Company G - many men from Mt. Gilead, Morrow County

Company H - many men from Lima, Allen County

The above information about the counties is from History of the Eighty-First Regiment, Ohio Infantry Volunteers, during the War of the Rebellion, by Wl H. Chamberlin, (Cincinnati: Gazaette Steam Printing, 1865), p. 11-12. Internet Archive.
