102813 Basic Indexing Guidelines: Names

Information has been added about indexing Latin names under Indexing Unfamiliar Names.

Latin Names: In projects where the entry is written in Latin, there will be various endings on the names of the child, father, and mother. • Names will end in -us, -um,- i for males and –a, -am, -ae for females. o If you can determine what the root name is, for example Maria, Katharina, drop the –m or –e. o For male names such as Paul, Albert, drop the –us, or –um, or –i.
