'''UPDATE AS OF OCT 3, 2019''' - Since April 2009, FamilySearch has given Professional Genealogists the opportunity to advertise their services on the FamilySearch Research Wiki. This was promoted and supported by FamilySearch. However, in 2018, the FamilySearch Terms of Use were updated as follows:<br>

''You may not use this site or information found at this site (including the names and addresses of those who have submitted information), to sell or promote products or services, to solicit clients, or for any other commercial purpose.  (For the complete [https://www.familysearch.org/legal/terms FamilySearch Terms of Use])''<br>
In 2011, FamilySearch Wiki received an average of 306,076 unique visitors per month. How many Websites attract that many genealogy visitors and allow you to list your professional genealogy research services for free?

To comply with the updated FamilySearch Terms of Use, we will no longer be able to support this service. As of January 1, 2020, we will permanently delete all Wiki pages listing Professional Researcher information and we will discontinue this project. We will continue to have a page called, [[Hiring a Professional Researcher|''Hiring a Professional Genealogist,'']] listing contact information for credential organizations and organizations supporting professional genealogists.<br>

This is a project to help professional genealogists market themselves for free on FamilySearch Wiki.

Get noticed. It's free![edit | edit source]

In 2011, FamilySearch Wiki received an average of 306,076 unique visitors per month. How many Websites attract that many genealogy visitors and allow you to list your professional genealogy research services for free?

Appropriate marketing on FamilySearch Wiki[edit | edit source]

  • Post your professional genealogy education (degree), credentials, experience, associations, and business license compliance on your user page.
  • Attach sub-pages to your user page which include featured services, examples of client reports, and customer testimonials, continuing education in professional genealogy.

Inappropriate marketing on FamilySearch Wiki[edit | edit source]

  • Don't add an entry to a page like Ohio Vital Records that says "Joe Genius is a professional genealogist who does fee-based vital records lookups in Ohio vital records. Click here to go to his user page and see his services and fee schedule."

Want to help?[edit | edit source]

We're interested in collaborating with members of the professional community to figure out ways to enable marketing of a professional's services on the wiki. Sign up here if you'd like to help brainstorm ideas. You can also add your ideas to the Discussion page. This page is not the place to advertise. This page is for organizing those who wish to help build the various wiki pages that will point wiki patrons towards professionals who can help them.
