Brief History[edit | edit source]
This Unit was organized at Dubuque and mustered in October 3, 1862. They mustered out August 8, 1865.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Company A - enrolled in Alamakee County
Company B - enrolled in Alamakee County
Company C - enrolled in Buchanan County
Company D - enrolled in Clayton County
Company E - enrolled in Clayton County
Company F - enrolled in Delaware County
Company G - enrolled in Floyd County and Chickasaw
Company H - enrolled in Buchanan County
Company I - enrolled in Allamakee County &c.
Company K - enrolled in Mitchell County
