Founded in 1982, the Immigrant Genealogical Society purpose is to help Americans trace their ancestors' origins, particularly in the German speaking areas of Europe and the places in the world to which they migrated. Presently, about half of the library holdings cover German speaking Europe and half cover America. There is a substantial portion of their collection devoted to the Pomerania region. They have the largest genealogical collection for German immigrants except for Salt Lake City. [1] [2]
