Article description: (description) This attribute controls the content of the description and og:description elements. | During colonial times present-day Colombia was part of the viceroyalty of Peru. However, due to it’s distance from Lima and the geographical isolation of Santa Fe (Bogotá), it remained relatively independent. In 1739, it became the Viceroyalty of New Granada with additional surrounding territory including Panama and Venezuela. It’s only export was gold, and otherwise was a subsistence economy. |
