The Fourth Regiment of Kentucky Volunteer Infantry was organized at Camp Dick Robinson, Kentucky, under Colonel Speed S. Fry, and mustered into the United States service on the 9th day of October, 1861 and was veteranized early in Jan,1864. The 4th received praise and commendation of every General Officer under whom it served. They fought in many battles where loss was sustained. They mustered out the 17th of August, at Macon, Georgia. [1] The regiment was reorganized In February 1864 at Lexington, Kentucky as the 4th Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry.[2]
