The 23rd Kentucky Infantry was organized in December, 1861, at Camp King, Kentucky, by Col. Marcellus Mundy, and was mustered into the United States service by Col. Marcellus Mundy. They joined the Army of the Cumberland and were placed at the front. Many of the men sealed their devotion with their death.[1]
