History

Major events:

  • September 7, 1955: Large rock and debris slide from Paganella.
  • November 25, 1955: Dangerous rock movement above Zambana Vecchia.
  • November 27, 1955: Evacuation of Zambana Vecchia ordered.
  • March 24-25, 1956: Landslide breaks through a dam and reaches the town center.
  • April 16, 1956: Another large landslide submerges more houses.
  • April 19, 1956: Zambana Vecchia declared uninhabitable.
  • July 10, 1957: Reconstruction of Zambana (Zambana Nuova) begins.
  • 1996-1997: Major works to consolidate landslide walls.
  • October 1993: Uninhabitability of Zambana Vecchia revoked. Cableway left in disuse. [1]
