Description[edit | edit source]

Windham County was named for Windham, Sussex, England.[1] The counties in Connecticut do not have county seats. The cities and towns are responsible for all local governmental activities. Windham County is located in the northeastern corner of the state.

There is no county government and no county seat today. The government is at the town level.
Town Clerks have birth, marriage and land records from 1692 and burial records from 1900.
Probate Judge has probate records.
Clerk of the Superior Court has divorce records.[2]
