County Information
Description
The county was named for General Mark Wilcox, a Georgia state legislator and one of the founders of the Georgia Supreme Court, or if it is named for his son John Wilcox. The county is located in the central area of the state.[2]

Probate Court has birth and death records from 1927, marriage records from 1886 and probate records.
Clerk Superior Court has land records from 1870, divorce and court records from 1900 and military records from 1917.[3]

1878 The courthouse at Abbeville burned the night of 30-31 March 1878. Many of the county records were lost. Probate Records
Colonial courts kept some early probate records. From 1777 to 1798 and since 1852, the court of ordinary or register of probates has kept probate and guardianship records. The inferior court handled probate and guardianship matters from 1798 to 1852.
Many probate records to the 1930s and 1940s are at the Georgia Department of Archives and History and the FamilySearch Library on microfilm.

Tax Records
