Description[edit | edit source]

The county was named for Josiah Pugh Wilbarger and Mathias Wilbarger, two early settlers. Wilbarger was part of Peter's Colony until 1858. Doan's Crossing and Store, a trading post, was established in 1878. The county is located in the north-central area of the state.[1]
