WikiProject:Fix Outdated and Problem Parish Pages
Purpose
The purpose of this project is to make the following changes to the outdated England parish pages:
- Add "Find neighboring parishes" section.
- Place final update of parish tables on each England Parish pages.
- Verify each parish is on the appropriate parish list.
- Fix miscellaneous problems on the page
Task List
Instructions
Part I
Step 1: Check Information above resources section
- Open the Task List, choose the New Parish Table tab at the bottom of the page and place your name next to the parish you want to edit. Click on the link and go to the parish page.
- We will be checking and fixing the top and middle parts of the parish pages.
- First, check the name of the page. Make sure it has the word Genealogy at the end of the name. If it does not look right, put it in the notes on the task list. I will fix it.
- Next, click the Edit Source button at the top of the page, check that there is a breadcrumb, a Guide to..., and a table for an infobox (see image below). If any of these three are missing put it in the notes on the task list. I will fix it.
- Next, make sure the parish history header looks like this

If it needs fixing, do so by copying and pasting this header. - If there is no history, still make sure the proper header is there, and note in the task list that the history is missing.
- Enter in the Summary and click Save changes
- Return to the task list. Place the date you completed Part I in the Part I column and move onto the next parish.

Part II
Step 1: Headers
- Make sure there is a Resources header and that it looks like this:

- If needed, make any changes to this header.
- Save the page.
- We will be making the following changes to this part of the page:
- The order of the headers under Resources should be:
Find Neighboring Parishes
Civil Registration
Church Records. - Exception: On some pages there may be the Cemeteries header between Find Neighboring Parishes and Civil Registration, leave these as is.
- Exception: Some pages may have Civil Registration under Church Records, leave these as is. Also, if Civil Registration is missing, make a note in the task list and I will add it.
- Next, click on the Edit Source button next to Resources
- Copy and paste the following code directly below the heading:
- Enter in the Summary and click Save changes
- Return to the task list. Place the date you completed Part II in the Part II column and move onto the next parish.
- Scroll down to the ===Church Records=== heading. You are going to delete everything under the Church Records heading; stop when you get to the ===Census Records=== heading. Do not delete the Census Records heading.
- Exception: If there is a Nonconformist section below Church Records with dates or other information The stop deleting after the Nonconformist heading and before the dates and other nonconformist information.
- Note: Make sure to leave the information and just delete the header.
- Copy and paste the following code under the ===Church Records=== heading where you just deleted the previous .
- In order to get the new parish table code you will need to go to a different parish page for the county you are working in.
- Go to the counties list on the England Genealogy page, uses this link: England Counties.
- Choose the county you are working in. Find a parish page in the parish list that has an updated table.
- Click on edit source next to Church Records.
- Copy the code for the parish table, starting with:

- Paste onto the page you are updating below the line Hover over the collection's title for more information.
- Change the name of the parish in the parish table header to the parish you are updating.
- Click Show Preview to make sure that everything was edited correctly. It should look like the following:
- Fix anything that looks incorrect.
- Enter in the Summary and click Save changes
- Return to the task list. Place the date you completed Part III in the Part III column and move onto the next parish.
- Find the breadcrumb at the top of the page and click on the parish list for the county you are currently working in. The image below shows what it should look like.
- Scroll through the alphbetical parish list to see if the parish you are fixing is listed. If it is listed:
Return to task list. Input the date you completed the page and move onto the next parish. - If the name of the parish is not there go to the next step.
- Find the appropriate place to put the parish name.
- Click Edit Source next to the letter the parish starts with
- Press enter where you want to add the parish.
- Type:
- Click Show Preview to make sure the parish was added correctly. It should look like the following:
- Enter in the Summary and click Save changes
- Return to the task list. Place the date you completed the page in the date column and the date you completed Part IV in Part IV column.
- Move onto the next parish.
