County Information[edit | edit source]
Description[edit | edit source]
Wicomico County was created 5 Oct 1867[2] and was named for the Wicomico River, which in turn derives its name from the Algonquian language words wicko mekee, meaning "a place where houses are built," apparently referring to a Native American town on the banks. Its county seat is Salisbury. It is located in the southeastern area of the state.[3]
