Description[edit | edit source]
The county was named for Robert J. Walker, a legislator from Mississippi who introduced into the United States Congress the resolution to annex Texas. The county is located in the southeast area of the state.[1] The county was under martial law for a time in 1871 because of the resistance to Reconstruction.
