History
The area was inhabited as follows:
- The first traces of inhabitants in the territory date back to Roman times.
- The first inhabited nucleus of Trenzano arose in the locality of Pieve, north of the current town, and developed around the Basilica Alba.
- In the 11th century, a castle was built south of the Pieve, near a chapel dedicated to San Giorgio.
- The foundation date of the municipality of Trenzano dates back to 1392.
Major events:
- In the medieval period, numerous reclamation works were undertaken to ensure the development of the territory.
- The Benedictine friars from Corzano moved to Convento, establishing a monastery and a church dedicated to San Michele.
- After having seen numerous armies pass through, Trenzano flourished again as a commercial and agricultural centre.
- The town was later hit by the plague of 1630 and by the devastation of the first phase of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1707).
- On 12 November 1856 a meteorite fell in Trenzano.[1]
