County Information

Description

Talladega County was created on 18 December 1832 and was named for the Muscogee (Creek) Native American word "Tvlvteke", from the Creek "tålwa", meaning "town", and "åtigi", or "border". The name indicates a location on the boundary between Creek tribal lands and Cherokee and Chickasaw tribal lands.[2] Its county seat is Talladega.[3] It is located in the central area of the state.
