Parish History

LITTLE CHART, (St. Mary), a parish, in the union of West Ashford, hundred of Calehill, lathe of Shepway, E division of Kent, 2 miles SW by W from Charing.

The original church of Little Chart St Mary the Virgin and the Holy Rood was destroyed by a V1 flying bomb in 1944. The ruined church of St Mary, Pluckley Road, Little Chart have been designated as a grade II listed building; only the tower circa 1500 remains.

The new church of St Mary the Virgin is now within the village and was consecrated in 1956.
