From 1830 to 1962 the so-called European civil status registers were established in two copies according to the metropolitan rule. When Algeria gained independence, these registers remained in Algeria where they are kept. | |||
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs undertook between 1967 and 1972 the reproduction on microfilm of part of these registers, approximately two-thirds. Some municipalities are missing altogether and others are incomplete. | |||
At the request of the Algerian government, the acts concerning the natives were to be concealed during the microfilming. | |||
These microfilms have been digitized.
