British Colonization (1899-1956)[edit | edit source]
After conquering the Sudan in 1899 with the help of Egypt, the Anglo-Egyptian Condominium was established under which rule was jointly shared between Britain and Egypt. In 1953 Britain and Egypt signed an agreement establishing self-government and self-determination in Sudan by 1956. Sudan was declared an independent republic in January 1956. In 2011, the south seceded from Sudan and is now known as the Republic of South Sudan.[1] [2]
