Genealogy SA (South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society)
The South Australian Genealogy & Heraldry Society formed in 1973 to promote and encourage the pursuit of family history and allied subjects in South Australia. The society has no political or religious affiliations. It is affiliated with the Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations (AFFHO), the English based Federation of Family History Societies (FFHS) and the Scottish Association of Family History Societies (SAFHS).
The society's membership of over 4000 members makes it the largest family history society in South Australia and it is located in the former Unley Institute at 201 Unley Road, Unley. The Society maintains a web site that outlines its services and addresses some of the needs of its remote members and the public who cannot attend in person.
Non-members can visit the library for a daily fee and the Society will undertake research within the Society's library for persons living outside the Adelaide metropolitan area or remote members.
The collection has a strong representation of English, Scottish and Irish material and specifically features:
South Australian material including: birth, death & marriage indexes; district birth, death & marriage records; cemetery indexes; burial registers; Church records; school admission registers; probate indexes; shipping records; family and district histories, electoral rolls.
Material for other Australian states and territories including: birth, death & marriage indexes; probate Indexes for NSW & VIC; shipping records (mainly NSW, VIC, WA); cemetery records (mainly NSW, QLD, VIC, TAS, WA); some electoral rolls (1993, 1996, 1999); genealogical society journals.

Research assistance
They are happy to carry out research for people who cannot visit Clare. They try to answer promptly, but given that all members are volunteers, a busy tourist season or time to sow or harvest the wheat crop can cause delays. They aim to promise a maximum wait of two months.
The Group welcomes enquiries by mail, addressed to: The Research Officer, Clare Regional History Group, PO Box 6, Clare, South Australia 5453. Other contact details are given in "Contact details".
Please enclose a self-addressed envelope, and a donation towards the Group's work is always much appreciated. We currently charge $15 per hour for research carried out, or $3 per entry for BD&M entries transcribed (as at November 2010).
